annual cookie day 2015

I'm currently choosing blogging over a clean house or a nap because I'm sad that so many of our family memories have gone undocumented the past year.  Granted, thanks to chatbooks I've got my instagram feed to look back on.  But they generally don't tell the whole story.  So blogging.  It's one of my 2016 goals.  Which I intend to blog about when I'm done playing catch up from December!

We had our fourth (I think) annual sugar cookie baking day just before Christmas.  This year my sister (Auntie) got to participate as well so that was fun.  But for some reason the girls were just not cooperating at all.  Ryann was pissed because we wouldn't let her eat all the dough.  Elsie just wanted to do everything her way right then, and was also licking EVERYTHING, and Thea was doing her baby thing.  So I was a little peeved at first.  When we did finally get to the sprinkle phase the girls loved it.  Elsie may have used so many sprinkles that the cookies were like rocks but she was super proud of her work!

I'm hoping that as they get a little bit older they might actually be helpful?  I mean I know half the fun of baking for them is eating dough and licking spatulas, but come on...

I'm so sad that we were unable to find more of our matching aprons for the day.  Maybe my mom should just whip up matching ones for all of us for next year.  Sounds good, right mom?  :: winky kiss face emoticon :: I love you!

Hopefully Auntie can join us again next year.  I'm sure it is just going to be a crazy hot mess when you add a one year old to the mix!

cookie baking day

The weekend before Christmas we headed to my parents house for the weekend for some holiday fun.  We drove around Winter Wonderland to look at the lights, celebrated my Dad's birthday and had our annual cookie baking day.  Sugar cookies sure are a lot of work, and certainly not my favorite Christmas cookie, but the girls have a blast and I love watching them help my mom in the kitchen.

And I use the term help VERY loosely.

We ended up splitting the process between two days, because Chris and I went to a KU basketball game Saturday afternoon (rock chalk!) and that evening Ryann randomly had a fever.  But she was feeling good by the next morning so we baked and decorated.  Elsie was adorable with the sprinkles, saying "prinkle prinkle prinkle!" as she decorated her cookies.  Ryann just dumped excess amounts of sprinkles on a few cookies, but she was proud of it so we'll call it good.  Oh, and Elsie was obsessed with the "wittle bitty (1/8th) tup".  No idea why, but it was cute.

Fun stuff.  Personally, I'm ready to get back to our regular routine and schedule, but there is just so much fun to be had during the holidays.

cookie baking tradition

Hello?  Anyone there?

I have succumbed to the pull of the couch and mindless TV in my downtime a little too often over the last few weeks.  Multiple children + the holidays + life = exhausting.  I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling it.  But the holiday season has been fun and full of activity, and lots and lots of cookies.  I don't bake near as much as I used to, but for some reason I used Christmas as a good excuse to bake all the things.  And then eat them all too.  But that is beside the point.

This is the third year we've gone to my parents house so Ry and I could bake cookies with my mama.  Technically Elsie was there as well, wearing an apron (all of ours are from Hobby Lobby) and everything, but she didn't really partake in the event too much.  Other than to look cute.  She's good at that.

In all honesty the cookie baking stresses me out just a teeny bit.  Because I'm a little too Type A and Ryann is three and could care less about how you're supposed to do it and just wants to eat all of the dough and the sprinkles.  But we still had fun.  Ry took her sprinkle job pretty seriously, and made sure to cover every single cookie in a pretty solid layer of them.  Oh well.  They tasted good!

I'm sure next year will be even more fun, and crazy, with Elsie in on the action.
