touches of yellow

Remember when I saw those yellow rose pillows that I needed? Well I found them at Target, and now they are mine. :o) Its the middle of June and I have finally acquired a couple of yellow items to give my family room a touch of summer.

The yellow flower sprays are from Hobby Lobby, and the little lantern thing is from ZGallerie.

My green pillows definitely aren't bright enough to play up the yellow, and I still want to find a yellow or green patterned lampshade for the table lamp that is sitting when you walk into the room. I also feel like this room is in need of some wall art, but I can't make up my mind what I want. Surprised? I bet not. Wall art seems to be the hardest thing for me to pick.

Before any of this will really look good, it might be best for me to clean out the closet so I have a place for my office. The iMac is quite the accessory for the bar. Oh, and do you like that my 'winter sticks' are still in here?

Meaghan said its ok, they're just sparkle sticks. Thanks Meg :o).

a beautiful family room

So awhile back I mentioned how I wanted to add a touch of spring to my fireplace mantel. Um yeah, still hasn't happened. But that is beside the point. In reality I want to brighten up my entire family room for the spring and summer. And thanks to Caitlin of Caitlin Creer Interiors I now have some inspiration. This week she posted photos of this fun and beautiful family room.

I NEED those pillows on the couch. NEED. Specifically the green lattice? pillow, the yellow rose pillow, and the pillow with blue, yellow and green wavy lines. They are a great summer alternative to what I have in my family room now. I also love the yellow flower pot, but with my cats, and live plants just aren't realistic. Ask Chris how many times they have knocked over vases of flowers...

So does anyone have any more suggestions of how to spruce up my family room? And now, those pretty flowers are no longer on the coffee table. Actually if I posted a picture of my family room now, oh boy. It is a total mess complete with a pack and play, play mat, and oh yes, my big desk top computer and giant printer on top of the bar.

help my mantel

(disclaimer... please excuse my lackluster photos... thanks!)

So although I'm not 100% proud of the way our mantel has looked since we've moved in, I definitely feel like it has at least been a bit more interesting.

Here is our mantel in all its glory from this fall:

And a shot of the mantel from the holiday season:

But now this is all I've got:

I don't want to do anything too crazy, I do feel like less is more. But I'm not sure where to start. Do you have any suggestions for decor items for my spring mantel? No, don't think eggs and bunnies, just something with a little springtime appeal.

If you have any great inspiration photos pass them my way. PLEASE!

Thanks for your help!

fireplace bling

My fireplace recently got jazzed up a bit. Poor Chris spent just over two hours HAMMERING nails into the brick. The mirror had a wire on the back, and being round, the best way to hang it (supposedly according to a guy at Home Depot) were with these hooks that had brick nails. Lets just say nails do not hammer into brick easily.

But I absolutely love the mirror! Now I am just at a loss of what to put on the mantel. I'm thinking matching vases with something, but who knows. Any thoughts?
