rug drama

So originally we ordered this rug from Home Decorators for the nursery...

When it arrived, it wasn't quite the color I was expecting, plus it was a little thin and kind of scratchy. I would have liked it in another potion of the house (I think) but it just wasn't right for a nursery. So then we moved onto this fun rug from Anthropologie, and it arrived yesterday.

The picture makes it a little hard to see but the grays don't quite match. The rug almost has a blueish lavender tint, and our walls don't. I'm wondering if I when the furniture gets in there, you won't notice the gray difference, but overall how do you feel about the rug?

Here is the 'mood board' I had created for the nursery, so you can see we are planning to pull the yellow and other colors in through the chair and fabrics. Because of that I think I want a neutral rug, either gray or white, but is the one I have the right one? Or do you have a better suggestion?

If only I could find a rug in a store that I liked... so I could stop paying shipping fees!!!!

Who knew rugs should be so hard to pick out!!! I really like the latest one from Anthro, but I agree it's not really the right color. I would almost leave it in there until all the furniture is in and see how it all comes together. Good luck!

It seems overpowering now, because my eyes go straight to it, whereas without it everything looks a little more harmonious. Thanks being kind of nit-picky though, because with furniture it could completely change everything.

While a bit expensive, I really like this:

I'm sure whatever you end up doing will look great!

I would give it some time and see how it pulls together once you have the furniture and stuff in it. I am loving the design and shape of the rug, so if it ends up blending, I would definitely stick with it!

I love it! I would wait till you have the furniture to make sure it kind of blends in, which I think it will.

did you get the curtains from urban outfitters? I saw some similar on there and I want them so bad but they only had white or grey! will you please share where you found yours?

I feel that it blends in and will even more so blend in when you get your furniture in there.

So you have the curtains I love and now the rug too! I am sure that with furniture it will all pull together. I think different shades of gray will be nice rather than 2 that match perfectly. But that's just me.

I was just wondering where the other rug (the rectangle one with the gray diamond print) was from??? Thanks for your help!

I love the Anthropologie rug, but can see your to-match-or-not-to-match gray dilemma. Check out these at West Elm: http://www.westelm.com/shop/rugs-windows/rugs-flooring/. They've got a yellow rug (doesn't look terribly soft, though) as well as a couple nice neutral gray rugs. By the way, this is Katie Coffman--Whitney E's friend and KUAA coworker. Love following your blog; I'm due in July so it's been really cool to see the weekly posts!

Jorden and Kristin - Yes the curtains are from Urban Outfitters, and unfortunately they no longer offer them in yellow.

Anonymous - The first rug is actually yellow with an off white pattern, and it is from homedecorators.com.
