Coming up with a title for this post was too hard for my tired brain. Because how do you title a post in which you talk about your kids talking about poop without it being really awkward or really dumb? That and I felt like several of the titles would encourage hits from people searching weird things and I just don't wanna go there.
SO! Yes. This is a post about things my kids said about poop.
A couple of weeks ago I was e-mailing back and forth with Ryann's teacher, because apparently my child talks a lot in class. Is anyone surprised? No? Didn't think so. But yes, we're hopefully working on talking when it is appropriate. One of her e-mails came before Ryann had gotten off the bus, and she let me know that she didn't think Ryann was feeling well because she said her tummy hurt and just wasn't acting like herself. Over the last week Elsie had a cold, and I knew Ryann's nose was getting runny so I assumed she had picked that up. But the second she stepped of the bus I could tell it was more than just a cold. Girlfriend looked completely wiped.
She came inside and sat on the couch and I cuddled up next to her. She felt pretty warm, but asked me for a blanket because she was so cold. I knew immediately she had a fever. I started texting back and forth with Christopher letting him know our girlie was sick, and then I found a thermometer to take her temperature. After confirming she did in fact have a fever (101.3), I got her all settled in on the couch. We talked about her day a little bit, and then she said to me (and she is going to hate me forever for sharing this, but it is too good not to record), "This afternoon when I went poop it was like brown water. It was gross when I tooted. I think the fever melted my poop."
I laughed so freaking hard. I love how little minds work.
Now with Elsie, we talk about poop a lot. Her pooping, or lack there of, continues to be a constant issue. We've resorted to giving her miralax every day to keep her regular. It is the whole reason I've yet to brave actual potty training with her. One afternoon before quiet time I sat down on the floor of her room...
Me: "Elsie, come over here and lay down so I can change your diaper."
Elsie: "NO! I still poopin'!"
Me: "No you're not, you're playing with your kitty house. Come over here."
Elsie: "No! I not done poopin' yet!"
Me: "Elsie Joann, come over here now so I can change your diaper."
Elsie: "Hold on! I not done! I just gotta poop fer wike, free (three) hours!"
Again, I laughed so hard.
My sweet girls, I'm sorry (I'm not sorry) that I've posted this on the world wide web. Just know you made at least a few people smile! Love you! :o)

Me: "Did you have any dreams last night?"
Ryann: "Yeah, me and my mom went to all the grades and then college."
Me: "Well that's weird."
Ryann: "Why?"
Chris: "I thought you said she was your mom."
Ryann: "Life works out weird in magic land."
Ryann: "Mommy will you please print me a picture of Elsa to color PLEASE?"
Me: "Hold on let me finish these invitations."
Ryann: "PLEASE MOM. I'm making a picture for you. And if I do something for you, you do something for me. I'm pretty sure that is how this works."
Ryann: after getting herself dressed "I picked out leopard pants for the bottom, and my anchor shirt for the top. So it's like I'm half leopard, half boat girl!"

listening to Lorde's 'Royals'
Ryann: "... we're driving Cadillacs in the trees."
Me: "They're driving in their dreams. A Cadillac is a kind of car, so they're dreaming about driving a nice car."
Elsie: "To Hobby Wobby? Drive to Hobby Wobby?"
Ryann: "I think they're driving their Cadillac to magic land where there are unicorns and castles and dragons."
Ryann: "Elsie, can you draw a caterpillar?"
Elsie: "Yeah!"
Ryann: "Oh Elsie! That is a very good bird! But not a very good caterpillar."
Elsie: "Dadooo dadooo!"
I have no idea. Ryann was sitting next to me while I was typing this and insisted I include that Elsie says that...
And man these two. We were at my parents over the weekend, and the 'pink car' finally got some serious use since Ryann received it for her 3rd birthday. Something clicked and Ryann does a better job driving (though better does not = good!), and Elsie freaking loves going for a ride. There was so much laughter and squeals of joy filling the air as Ryann did continuous circles on the driveway.
We were crazy enough to give Elsie a shot at driving. The first time she actually connected with the gas, for just a moment, there was a look of sheer joy and power on her face. She definitely felt like a queen at the wheel. She was AWFUL at driving, and regularly would just lay on the gas without caring where she was going. I was laughing so hard that I couldn't control the car at all. We may have smashed one of my mom's rosebushes. But hey, she was having fun! Haha.

Ryann: "Sorry Elsie, better luck next time!"
I can't remember what Elsie was trying to do, but I about died.
Me: "I wish the leaves could stay the fall colors all winter and then just turn in to spring leaves."
Ryann: "But they fall of the tree right? And new ones grow back?"
Me: "Yeah, but I don't like the way the trees look with no leaves. I wish they could just keep them. And I love how the fall leaves look."
Ryann: "Sorry Mom, that just isn't how Jesus made it."
While trying to cut some stuff to make the girls' head pieces for their Halloween costume, I sliced the crap out of my finger. It was bleeding all over the place. Once I had it under control and made sure Ryann wasn't going to freak out...
Ryann: "Maybe you should have practiced more with your scissors. My scissors aren't as pointy and sharp, maybe you need to use those next time you use scissors."

that's what she said
It's been too long since I've recorded some of Ryann's verbal shenanigans...
Ryann: After it's done it's gonna be fun! That's just an old phrase I found in my head.
Ryann: Wanna hear a knock knock joke?
Me: Sure.
Ryann: Knock knock!
Me: Who's there?
Ryann: Bean stalk!
Me: Bean stalk who?
Ryann: Bean stalking yooouu!
Um what? Hahahaha.
Ryann: I know we don't usually do this, but I'd like another snack now. Pleeeeease! Bats eyelashes.
Ryann: used in the correct context WHITE TRUCK APPROACHING!! Mom, what the heck does approaching mean?
while I was bending over, putting on Elsie's shoes
Ryann: Mom, I gotta tell you something.
Me: Ok...
Ryann: I love pickles. Wanna hear something else?
Me: Sure.
Ryann: I can see your bum crack!
Well at least I know she'll tell me if my butt is hanging out.

Ryann: "What did the apple say to the peanut butter?"
Me: "I have no idea."
Ryann: "MILK!"
apparently random words = jokes in her books
overheard while Ryann was playing with beads
Ryann: "Oh no Elsie, those aren't for you!"
Elsie: "Whyyyy?" yes, help me, she says 'why' already. ALL. THE. TIME.
Ryann: "Because they are small and if you eat them you could choke and die."
Elsie: laughs
Ryann: "Um, that isn't funny."
Ryann: "I'm a bacon, bacon, BACON! I'm a bacon machine!"
Ryann: to Papa "When you were a kid I wouldn't trust you with a knife."
Me: "I have no idea."

that's what she said
Me: "We're going to go upstairs to the food court to eat lunch."
Ryann: "If you want to get there quick, the trampoline is the key!"
Ryann: "I wish I was a flying unicorn."
Me: "Oh, that could be fun. Why?"
Ryann: "So I could fly away from here. I'm mad at you."
Me: Oh Lord "Why are you mad at me?"
Ryann: "Because I don't like it when you tell me no."
Me: "Why oh why is it raining so much?!?"
Ryann: "I hate to tell you this, but I don't know."
Ryann: daily "You ruined my WHOLE LIFE!"
Teenage years. Can't wait. Seriously.
I've been meaning to write a whole 'four year' post for Ryann, but obviously haven't gotten around to it. So I thought a quick overview would be good enough. For starters, I really think I'm going to like four. Three was cool, it's a fun age, but threenager doesn't even begin to describe what living with a three year old can be like. Don't get me wrong, Ryann is still full of intense emotion and flips out over the dumbest things. But she is slightly more rational and can function a little more effectively in all aspects of life.
She is still as smart as can be, somehow managing simple addition and subtraction as well as other basic math skills, plus learning to read here and there, despite my lack of teaching her lately. Her problem solving skills are top notch, she can come up with a solution for every situation so long as it gets her closer to her goals in life (going to the park, aquiring more unicorns and eating more sweets, things of that nature). Ry is still a crappy eater, living mostly on chicken nuggets, PB&J, fruit and squeezy pouches, although bacon has been added to the list of acceptable food items. I can handle that. :o)
Over the last month an overwhelming interest in independence has surfaced, and often Ryann wants no help from anyone. A lot of these situations end in tears when she can't quite do or figure out whatever it is she is trying to accomplish, but she radiates pride with every task she discovers she can complete on her own. My excitement for all of this is somewhat restrained. I wouldn't say I'm a helicopter parent per say, but I'm close. I'm thrilled for her, and I know it will be great when she is so much more self sufficient, but it pains me to see her need me less and less. I have a hard time stepping back and letting her figure it all out on her own.
Ry doesn't know a stranger. She wants to talk to anyone and everyone and is never shy. My fingers are always crossed for an empty park so I don't have to talk to anyone, while she eagerly approaches hoping for a busy day. She yells hello to everyone on the street and passes out dandelions to anyone who will take one. Her personality is big and bright. I find it funny that someone as introverted as me would have to take on the task of raising someone as extroverted as her.
Parenting Ryann is no easy task, but I'm so happy she's mine :o).

that's what she said
Ryann: "Here, I left you a large space, because you have a LARGE bum."
Ryann: "Whoa Mom, that was a big bite!"
Me: "It's ok, I have a big mouth."
Ryann: "And a BIG stomach!"
What kind of theme do we have going here?
Ryann: "Mom? Here's the deal. I'm just going to pretend I ate all my squeezy pouch, ok?"
And a little story about how I know this girl is my child. Plus a reason I'm proud of her. We went to a birthday party for one of her friends from school this past weekend. It was at one of those inflatable places with slides and an obstacle course and such. Before they got to go in and play they had to watch a little video with the rules on it, that said how many kids could be on what, how to go down the slide, etc. Of course once they opened the door the kids all went nuts and many of them weren't abiding by what they had seen on the video (they're 3-6 and super excited, I get it). Ryann was distraught by it. "Mommy the video said to go feet first and they're going head first! There are too many kids jumping. The video said... the video said..." She followed all the rules and was incredibly respectful to the other children and adults we didn't know. Thumbs up kiddo.
Also? She put her problem solving skills to work. One of the slides had the tower of, well, spider web levels I guess? Elastic or bungee bands spread across a level. I want to say there was six or seven levels. She wanted to climb it so badly, but it was HARD. Many of the kids couldn't do it, and kept falling back down. Long after several children had given up, she was still in there determined to figure it out. And she did. She couldn't climb it the way it was intended, she was just too short to push herself through each level. But she discovered that by using the side netting as well as the padded rungs supporting the outside of the structure she could have enough stability and leverage to move up through the levels. After that she zipped up there several times. That girl is head strong and smart, that is for sure. ;o)
In about one month she will be four. FOUR. That is insane.

while hanging over the seat of a dining room chair
Ryann: "I'm sleeping like a pony!" uh, ok
Me: "Oh really?"
Ryann: "Yeah! A dreaming pony! I like to dream."
Me: "What do you like to dream about?"
Ryann: "I like to dream about the body. I like to dream about bones, and the heart and the brain and alveoli."
Me: "What are alveoli?"
Ryann: "Alveoli? The little air sacs in the lungs? Maybe YOU need to watch some body videos!"
Chris and Ryann have been watching videos about the human body (child of a doctor much?). And I'm not talking interesting kid geared videos. She is basically watching a professor or doctor give lectures on various parts of the body. What almost four-year-old enjoys that?
Not only have they been watching body videos, but they've also been cruising through the Planet Earth DVD's. Last night they were watching the 'fresh water' and a crocodile was attacking it's prey. I made a comment about how I didn't want to watch that or told Ryann not to look or something. She said, "It's ok mom. It's just life." For the love, really child? You're right, it is just life, but COME ON. She is something else. ;o)

Ryann: "Don't come in here. I'm doing dangerous things."
Said while she was playing in her room by herself. Turns out she was playing with some of her dinosaurs that we have said weren't for Elsie to touch, but still. Say that and I am absolutely coming in there!
as we pull in to a parking space at dance
Ryann: "Stop. We can't get out until we pray."
Me: "Ok."
Ryann: "Close your eyes! Fold your hands!"
Me: does what I am told
Ryann: "Now. Pray that we turn in to unicorns. I pray I am a unicorn!"
Me: stifles laughter "I pray that Ryann has a great time in dance class and especially good listening ears."
Ryann: "You HAVE to pray to be a unicorn or we can't get out."
Me: "But... I... I pray that I am a unicorn."

"Whoa! Look at the variety of things she is pulling out!"
Ryann: "When Grammy is here she gets all the love. You don't get any."
ouch, but fair enough.

Ryann: "Oh, uh, I pottied in my pull up."
Me: "How come?"

Me: "My straightner is on in the bathroom. Don't touch it, it's hot."
Ryann: "Why?"
Me: "Because it would burn you."
Ryann: "I'd be a cooked kid!"
Ryann: "Brennan! Your mom told Avery no because she was trying to pull Elsie's hair bow
and that's bad news!"
Brennan: "Well, what's the good news then?"
that exchange killed me :o)
Ryann: "Why is there money in there [a fountain]?"
Me: "Well, sometimes people throw pennies in a fountain and make a wish."
Ryann: "Can I do it?!?"
Me: "Well, sure I suppose." Grammy gives Ryann a penny, she tosses it in
Grammy: "Good job! What'd you wish for?"
Ryann: "A PONY!"
Me: "The last time Chris worked until 10 was the night that Ry ended up in our b-e-d."
Grammy: "Oh."
Ryann: "What's a b-e-d? A bed?" sucks when your kid learns to spell
Ryann: "Whoa. I almost pooped on the carpet."
Me: "What?!? Do you need to go to the bathroom."
Ryann: "Nah, I'll be ok until we finish our game."
I should not have phrased that as a question. If you think you almost pooped on the floor you will most certainly be making a trip to the bathroom!

Me: WTF?
Ryann: while we are getting in the car to leave "Good morning Lisa!"
Me: "Who's Lisa?"
Ryann: "Your car."
Me: "Ryann, you need to make better choices during gymnastics class. You need to listen to your teachers and be nice to the other kids. You need to show me you can make better choices next week or we aren't going to go to gymnastics anymore."
Ryann: "Maybe you could just stay home next week and I'll go by myself."
Michelle: "This morning Effy and I went to the z-o-o with some friends."
Ryann: "You went to the ZOO?!?!?"
after an epic quiet time battle
Ryann: "Are you happy now?"
Me: "Sorry honey, I'm still a little grumpy. The choices you made during quiet time made me sad."
Ryann: "How about a hug? Would a hug make you happy?" bats her stupidly adorable little eyes
Me: "It could help."
Ryann: "I could juggle! That might make you happy." with the hugest sweetest grin on her face
Me: WTF?
Ryann: while we are getting in the car to leave "Good morning Lisa!"
Me: "Who's Lisa?"
Ryann: "Your car."

that's what she said
Ryann: talking to her legos in a weird radio announcer like voice
"CALLING ALL NATIONS. We are having a circus today. Do you hear me? DO! YOU! HEAR! ME!"
Ryann: "This snake's name is Slithery. My big snake is named Snakey. Slithery misses Snakey! Let's go home and get her!" Snakey is a giant 3 foot long stuffed purple snake, thank you Christopher for that one
Me: "Honey Snakey is too big to take everywhere."
Ryann: "Why?"
Me: "Because she is. She would drag on the floor if you carried her around."
Ryann: "Snookie is still at the zoo."
Me: "Is Snookie another snake?" how does she know the name Snookie?
Ryann: "Yeah. And her friends... makes up random names. They all went to heaven today."
Me: "Oh?"
Ryann: "Yeah. They went to heaven, and they aren't coming back for a long time. Maybe around lunch time."
Christopher: "I have to go to the hospital to pick up a new badge tomorrow afternoon."
Ryann: "Oh no! Will I see you at bedtime?"
Me: "He better be coming home tomorrow. We have a date!"
Ryann: "But I'll be all alone! Who will be home with me?!?"
Me: teasing her "No one. You're in charge. You take care of Elsie."
Christopher: "Yeah. You can feed her and put her to bed."
Ryann: "BUT I don't know how to put her to bed!! And I don't have BOOBS."
Me: snorts "It's ok. There's milk in the freezer."
Ryann: "Oh I can fill my chest with that milk and then I can feed her."
Me and Christopher: uncontrollable laughing
Ryann: in the bathroom, making sniffing noises "I smell something."
Me: "What?"
Ryann: "Lightning bugs."
Ryann: "I would like to paint the front of Best Buy, striped. On the first of July."
Me: "Um, ok?" where the hell did she come up with that?
Ryann: "Yeah. And polka dots. I want to paint the WHOLE thing. Even the top. I'd use a rope to get up there."

that's what she said
Ryann: walking into Grammy's house "I'm so happy to be home."
Yes, she prefers their place over ours. I would too.
Me: "Are you done going potty?"
Ryann: "Hold on, I'm pushing out some brown stuff. It's called poop."
I know she'll love me for recording that one. :o)
Me: "I'm going to go take a shower."
Ryann: "AGAIN?!?!? But you showered yesterday!"
My toddler has observed the fact that I rarely manage to shower two days in a row.
while in the bathroom, after she had woken me from a very VERY deep sleep at 5:30am
Ryann: "Those are some nice pajamas you have on! I like the polka dots."
Me: groggily "Thanks."
Ryann: "I'm going to pretend the polka dots are different colors so they can be circus pajamas."
and then she proceeded to sing the 'afro circus polka dot' song from Madagascar 3
while I was in another room nursing Elsie I overhead the following conversation between Ryann and Christopher's Uncle, while they were eating lunch with the rest of Chris's family on Mother's Day
Doug: "Ryann, do you like tomatoes?"
Ryann: "Oh, no no no no. I don't like tomatoes."
Doug: "Does Elsie like tomatoes?"
Ryann: giggling "Oh no! She's too little to eat tomatoes."
Doug: "Well it's a good thing I'm not feeding her, I might have given her a tomato."
Ryann: "You can't feed Elsie, you don't have boobs!"
Dead.

that's what she said
Grammy: "Please don't touch that. Don't push the buttons." talking about her house phone
Ryann: "Why?"
Grammy: "Because it is for making phone calls. You don't need to call anyone."
Ryann: "Yes I do!"
Me: "Who do you need to call?"
Ryann: "Brennan."
Me: "Brennan? Why?"
Ryann: "Cause he's my boyfriend. And when I'm older and he's older were going to get married in the kazoo."
Me: "Kazoo? What the heck are you talking about?"
Ryann: "The KAZOO! IN GEORGIA!"
Me: "What?"
Grammy: "Oh you mean the gazebo?"
Ryann: "Yeah, the gazebo. We're gonna get married in the gazebo."
Ryann: at the breakfast table "You win!"
Me: "What? Why do I win?"
Ryann: "you ate all your breakfast! Hooray! Oh man! The timer already went off. You win. Now I can't eat my breakfast anymore."
Me: "What timer? You can keep eating. You don't have to be done just because I'm finished."
Ryann: "No the timer went off. I can't eat anymore. When it's 10:20 we have to be all done."
Me: "What are you talking about? There isn't any timer, it's 8:00. You really can keep eating your breakfast honey."
Ryann: "NO! I can't! The timer went off! Well maybe just a little bit. But when it's one hundred fifty-two one one one one one I have to be done."
Me: "Uh, ok."
Ryann: "Papa tell me a story about a piece of cheese and a piece of bread and they were walking to a party with a skunk and a giraffe and a hippo and other animals."
Papa: "Really? How about a rhinoceros too?"
Ryann: "Yeah, yeah. Let's do that.

that's what she said
Here I go and say I probably won't be posting, and then I manage to find myself a few minutes. Plus it is an easy post to throw up since I've just been writing down what Ry says, and already had the pictures on Flickr, waiting for a post to use them in. For the record, the things Ryann says lately are ridiculous. She sounds like a teenager sometimes.
Ryann: "Tomorrow I'll be nice and I'll never ask for a sweet treat ever again."
said after a particularly rough couple of hours, and yes, she has asked for sweet treats
Ryann: "When I was a kitty like Max I used to eat kitty food all the time. Yeah, I was a green cat. Green and orange."
Grammy: "Girlfriend, are you going to drive me crazy all week?"
Ryann: "I'm not big enough to drive you!"
Me: sings the Honey Nut Cheerio song "Nobody can say no..."
Ryann: "Um, well, the boy who said no to me at Monkey Bizness would say no to my cheerios."
Ryann: "Grammy, tell me the story of David and Goliath."
Grammy: "Well, there was a solider named Goliath. He was big and mean..."
Ryann: "Wait! Hold that story!" runs to grab something from the other room
Ryann: "Can I have a drink?"
Me: hands Ry a cup of water, she takes a sip
Ryann: "Eew disgusting. I don't like water. I want some juice."

that's what she said
Ryann: "When you shrink and I'm big like you I can drive you around in a car."
Me: "Whoa! We just drove right over the train tracks [on a bridge]. Did you hear the train?"
Ryann: "Yes... Can we drive on the train tracks?"
Me: "No. The tracks are made specially for the train's wheels. The wheels of our car are made to drive on flat roads and streets."
Ryann: "Well, we could ask Mickey Mouse for some super wheels and then we could drive on train tracks."
Ryann: "Can Elsie drink milk from my boobs?"
Me: laughing "No, she can't."
Ryann: "It's NOT FUNNY!!"
Me: trying to stifle laughter "You're right. It's not funny. But no, Elsie can not drink milk from you."
Ryann: "Why?"
Me: "Because it just doesn't work like that. You won't make milk until you get big and you have a baby."
I felt really bad about laughing at her when she asked that. Because it really was an honest innocent question. But it was funny to hear her say it. So far only once has she mimicked me nursing, trying to nurse her baby doll, but that was pretty funny too. She was wearing a dress and was having issues trying to get it to stay up. She frustratedly said "How do I get all the way up to my boobs?!?" We wound up tucking the dress up into the neck so she could 'feed' her baby. Then she told me she was a good mommy. It was pretty cute.

that's what she said
Ryann: "I want someone to put these pickles in my mouth. Ahh..." opening her mouth really wide
Christopher: "Well aren't you a little princess?"
Ryann: "I don't want my hands to get all pickley!"
Ryann: "You tickled my bum, and I liked it!" can we say awkward?
Ryann: "It's foggy and rainy today."
Me: "Yep. We need the rain, it is good for the grass and the plans and the trees. But I sure hate having to walk in it."
Ryann: very straight forwardly "Mom. You have an UM-brel-YA."
Me: "Aw man. We need gas. That stinks. You know why?"
Ryann: "Why?"
Me: "Because it's like two degrees outside and I don't wanna get out of the car."
Ryann: "But we have to get gas cause the car needs gas and if you don't get gas the car won't go and I can't do it cause I can't reach!"
Ryann: at 6:48am "Morning. You need to vacuum."
Me: "Do I?"
Ryann: "Yeah. There are kitty hairs on the floor."
Me: "Well good morning to you too."
And the crown jewel for this post...
Me: singing a song out of a book she has "When you grow older...... you will be loved and precious to me."
Ryann: "Nooo!"
Me: "What? What is wrong?"
Ryann: "I'M NOT PRECIOUS!"
Me: "Yes you are. You are precious to me. I love you!"
Ryann: "NO. I wanna be a CEO!"
And then I had to try really hard to contain some of my laughter. I think Ryann thought 'precious' was something she would be when she grows up. And she claims she wants to be a CEO like her papa. So apparently that pissed her off. I had to try and explain the use of precious. Poor kid.

Ryann: "Oh, I think you're right mom."
Me: "I usually am."
Ryann: "But you're not always right." thanks for pointing that out kiddo
Me: "You're right. Not all the time. Nobody can be right all the time, nobody is perfect."
Ryann: "Oh, I know someone who is perfect."
Me: "Oh yeah? Who?"
Ryann: "Papa!"
Me: "You need to pick up that spoon and take it to the kitchen. We do not throw silverware on the floor."
Ryann: "That's not silverware. That's plastic."
touche little one, touche.
Ryann: "Ooo, I like your hands!" in reference to the fake nails I had put on
Ryann: "Tell me a story about pigs. And snow. Now."
the very first thing she said to me when I woke her up from a nap
Me: "What are you doing?"
Ryann: "Just laying here. Yooking at the yight. It has three eyes. And wings."
you should probably stop staring at the light...
