this and that

:: We need friends. Or really, Ry needs friends. Of course we've got JT, who I absolutely adore, but I feel like finding a playgroup would be really beneficial to Ryann (and who am I kidding, me too. I need some social interaction). Whenever we see other babies or children, Ryann is very interested, and I believe being around other kids will keep pushing her developmentally. But I have no idea how to go about finding a playgroup. We aren't currently attending a church here (finding a church has been on my to-do list since we bought our house. fail.) and other than that I don't know where to look. Any thoughts?

Wouldn't you want to be friends with this cutie?

:: Chris was watching So You Think You Can Dance with me on Wednesday. When the last dance with Kent and Robert started he said 'it's like the Matrix, only 1930's style.' For some reason that made me laugh, a lot :o).

:: Ryann has started log rolling across the room. I need to catch it on video, but it either happens so fast, or I turn around and when I turn back she is in the middle of the room. In the picture below, I laid her down on the blanket, went to the kitchen to grab some OJ, came back and found her in front of the TV. Silly girl.

:: Ry's sleeping habits this week = CRAP. She has been getting up 2-3 times a night, and thinking that 5:15AM is wake up time. Sorry lady, that doesn't work for me. I know the cold messed her up a bit, and I thought that maybe she just needed short naps during the day for her to sleep through the night, but apparently I was wrong. The last two days she has slept about 12 hours each day. Total. As in night sleep and naps. Don't forget this kid goes to bed at 7:15PM now, which means we are getting our longest stretch during some of my awake time!. The past two days she has been unswaddled for naps and has slept for 30-40 minutes (yes, that is a success in this house) so if that continues this week, I believe next weekend we are going to try unswaddling cold turkey in her crib. I feel like we can't do any sort of sleep training while she is still swaddled. I just don't think it would work. Besides, she will be five months old in a couple weeks (WHAT???) so I think it is about time we move away from that.

:: I want no bake cookies. REALLY BAD. And chocolate covered rice krispy treats. Is that a problem?

:: A few weeks ago Ry started refusing the paci (she was never dependent on it, it was just rather helpful when she was fussy) and now she will have absolutely NOTHING to do with a binky. I guess I should be happy that I don't have to worry about weaning her from it, but man it sure was a nice little tool :o).

:: We got a jumperoo. Ry isn't really sure what she thinks of it. But she is putting Daddy's medical books to good use! (Her feet don't quite touch the ground)

:: All of these preseason NFL games have made me incredibly excited for football. I love lazy Sundays watching the games. Though, it isn't going to be quite the same anymore is it?

I found your blog through All Things G&D. Ryann is such a cutie! We have the same nap issues. I would give anything for my 2 month old to take a 45 minute nap!

When Chloe was 7 months old, I had zero friends with children so I joined a couple playgroups in our city through meetup.com and facebook and huge groups of us would meet at the park and chat. I met 5 other women who had babies born within a few weeks of her and 3.5 years later, they are still some of my closest friends. Making friends this way was definitely trial and error especially considering how shy I am, but it was fun! Swimming lessons, library storytime etc are also great places to meet moms. Good luck!

I love our playgroup and it formed just kind of randomly. I knew 2 of the girls before (but being pregnant and due around the same time made us actually become friends). Then I met another girl through BabyCenter. We were in the same birth club and lived in the same city. Then we started following each others blogs and finally met in real life. She met another one of the girls at Babies R Us and invited her to join, then the other 2 original girls I knew also knew a few more people. So it was a chain reaction. I might feel weird at first, but when you see other moms at the store or the park, just make small talk and maybe it will go somewhere. Most moms our age (20 somethings) have the same problem I think. Not a ton of friends with babies and looking for friends. And the internet is great too! Blogs, etc....not sure what city you are in. We are in ATL (but I don't think you are).

I'm not sure how I found your blog, but your daughter is such a doll.

When my oldest was R's age, I found a playgroup on meetup.com. It's a wonderful way to meet other moms, get advice, support and make friends for your kids too!

I found my playgroup through our library. The library had offered a story time for babies and after a few weeks we knew each other pretty well and started our own little playgroup.

Ryan is so adorable!

Go to meetup.com and search for a mommy group in your area. Another place is if you have a book store or library that does story time, there are meetup groups that meet there and you may meet someone that way.

We go to a meetup group and it has been fun for all of us.

She looks so cute in her jumper.

So I came across your blog before Ryann was born and then after you had her I put it together that our hubby's know each other. They went to undergrad and now in medical school together (though not in the same class, my hubby is a year behind yours) Anyways, I joined a MOMS club, momsclub.org, in the area where we live. I also plan on attending a MOPS group at our church when that starts in September. Email me if you want to know more :) I enjoy your blog! jarodandash@gmail.com

Some of my girlfriends have had really good luck through some of their baby-classes. It started in birthing class but they've also met people through swim lessons and mommy & me gymnastics. We're lucky that our neighborhood has lots of kids, so when we add to our little family I should be able to just take the stroller around the block to meet people! I'd think a neighborhood park would also be good; then you'd be in close proximity which would be convenient!

I also suggest meetup.com for a playgroup. That's how we found ours and I'm so glad we joined!
