happy new year

Goodbye 2010.  Hello 2011.

Last year was one of the most amazing, rewarding, difficult, challenging, exciting and exhausting years of my life.  It was great, but I'm glad to put it behind me and see what lies ahead.

Moving into another year, I'm not one to make specific resolutions or goals.  Failing at something is one of my biggest fears, so possibly setting myself up for it isn't something I like to do.  But I have things I hope for.

I hope to be a great mom.  I hope to have a healthy little girl.  I hope to be a loving wife, a wonderful daughter and a caring friend.  I hope to pay attention to others' needs, while not allowing mine to fall to the bottom of the list.

I want to be passionate about life.  Like I said, as good as this last year has been, it has been really really hard.  And sometimes I was too tired to try and enjoy the moment.  And don't get me wrong, everyone needs a good nap here or there, or to just lay on the couch.  But I don't want to look back and feel like I was lazy, or I wasted an evening.  So for as many great nights I spend curled up on the couch in my sweats, I hope to have as many great little adventures to remember.

I want to capture the memories.  The ridiculous little moments.  The sad times.  All of the fun and joy.

Sometimes I question why I spend so much time on this blog (it may not show, but hey, it takes a lot of work to edit pictures, write posts, etc...).  I think no one reads it so who cares.  I shouldn't put that up because people will think it is stupid.  And then I read Jami's post, and I remember why I blog.  Because when I can go back to those first few weeks of Ryann's life, or when we first moved in to this house, it means so much to me.  If you have ever considered starting a blog, do it.  Who cares if it is something other people want to read.  If it matters to you, write it down.  You'll thank yourself in a few years.

I hope to find balance.

I want to take better care of myself and my body.  Yes, I could do the typical 'I will lose 15 pounds this year', but again.  Setting myself up for failure.

Our little family didn't do anything crazy to ring in the New Year.  Chris grilled lobster tails, and after Ryann was in bed we had some drinks and watch Despicable Me in our sweats.  This morning I made breakfast (it didn't turn out the greatest but it's the thought that counts right?).  We tried to let Ryann try pancakes, but she acted like we were torturing her so we gave up.  Oh well, Happy New Year :o).

So this post was a little all over the place, but that is just kind of the way I'm rolling today.  But we are starting the year off with a freshly vacuumed house, and full bellies.  That will do.

Great post! I think people set impossible goals for themselves. We need to cut ourselves some slack. Life throws crazy stuff at you when you least expect it and I always find it best to find the humor in any situation. We all need some comic relief in our lives. The start of the new year has so much possibility and you never know where it is going to take you. Hoping you have a great 2011!

Love the party hat and beads! What fun pictures. Yes, blogging takes a lot of time (or it can), but I agree that it's worth it. I love when people read my blog, but it's first and foremost to document life for Shelby, and I have fun doing it! Happy new year to you.

Oh my goodness, I love your blog! I subscribe to 109 blogs (yes, I just checked my Google Reader) and I'm not exaggerating, yours is the one I am MOST excited to see as "unread". It is so sweet, uplifting, and AH-dorable. You're not afraid to share your triumphs and your short falls, making you a REAL person, not just a picture perfect wife/mama/daughter/friend, but a REAL person. Thank you for your blog...it truly is my favorite!

I don't comment much but I love your blog. I think you have one of the most adorable kids and I love seeing all the pics you take. I think this post is some of the cutest pics you've taken---I love her expression as she explores the hat and beads. Keep it up :-)

I really appreciate your thoughts about blogging. I've had my blog a little over 2 years now. I know I have a few readers out there, mainly family and friends, but don't get too many comments so sometimes it seems like I'm doing a lot of work for nothing. But as I've looked back at some of my past posts, I love being able to relive memories of my pregnancy and my baby girl's first few months of life. What a neat way to document all of that.

I found your blog about three months ago and so enjoy it when I see you at the top of my blog list...meaning you've put a new post out. Keep up the hard work...it is noticed. :)

I follow your blog on a daily basis (Zoe is 1 week younger than Ryann) :) so its fun to read the similarities and to know that I'm not alone.

Keeping up with a blog takes big commitment, so props to you. I'm just too lazy/tired/hectic to even start a blog, but really wish I could track the daily stuff with my little one and look back with fond memories. You also described exactly how my 2010 went with a new baby :) so here is to 2011 with more energy, sparkles, and laughter. The fun is around the corner as they transition to toddler-hood.
