i wanna run.

Today is day number eight that I have not run.  Pretty sure that is the longest stretch of no running in the last TWENTY months.  I'm going a bit crazy, and I'm just a wee bit bitter.

I went for a run with Christopher last Sunday (side note, trying to convince your husband that running is fun is not best done when it is 28 degrees outside and you drag him out at 8am for 3 miles...), and it went well.  We did the last mile a little faster than my normal pace, but I felt fine and good when we were done.

But by Tuesday morning, I was sore.  My hip flexor to be exact.  I thought I could walk it off, and even tried to start running for a bit on the treadmill, but no such luck.  It was incredibly painful.  I switched over to the elliptical which didn't bother me at all.  Then I took Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off from any sort of structured exercise.  But I was still in some pain on Saturday.

I've been walking the last two days.  And it is funny (not really, more so annoying), when I go for a 'walk' my hip doesn't really bother me.  But later in the day, especially after sitting for a length of time, when I try and just walk normally there is a lot of pain.

Not sure what the best approach is to making this better.  Personally, I'm not quite ready to be done running during this pregnancy.  But I'm not sure I'm going to have a choice.  It is incredibly frustrating to know that just two weeks ago I ran nearly 14 miles, and now I'm worried whether or not I'll be able to make it walking a mile.  Yes, I absolutely have to, and am listening to my body, but again, just frustrating.

Who has dealt with hip flexor issues?  Any tips?  How long were you sidelined from your activity?  I think I'm going to be forced to love the elliptical...

Link up your health and fitness posts below!  It has been so nice to have so many people linking up lately.  I really appreciate it, and even if I don't make it over to comment (sometimes I read them on my phone) I do read every single post.  So thank you for your stories and inspiration!

i have no answers to your question, but how awesome that it's been twenty freakin' months that you have been running! i remember when you started you journey {started following your blog from the nest d&r board days} and it inspired me so much that i started running before i was pregnant. wasn't brave enough to keep up with it while pregnant. i can't wait to start running again once i get my clearance to do so! keep it up and you are doing an amazing job inspiring others with your dedication :)

Have you thought about going to a chiropractor? Perhaps something is out of alignment?

Agree with Stacey - I would try a chiro!

When you were fitted for your shoes, did they see anything in your running stance that would explain the hip pain? I know the way I run that when I overpronate I can have hip troubles.

And I know you don't want to hear it but the elliptical IS a good place to rest while still getting in a good workout. Try the hill settings and it goes by faster :)

I would love to know how your round ligaments hold up! Despite the Gabrialla band, I was forced to stop running (the half marathon is my favorite distance!) because my round ligaments would be so sore and painful, I couldn't move. My poor husband has had to put up with my grumpiness for 3 weeks now and he's saying, "How much longer until this baby can come out?"

Try waterjogging in the deep end of the pool. It is a nice option if you are injured.

I have been reading your blog for a long time but i think this is my first or second comment. I just wanted to let you know I went on my first run in a very long time today! Thanks for motivating me. My husband works Tuesday-Saturday so he has Mondays off, we are going to make running together on Mondays a weekly thing. Thanks a bunch!
