trying to hold back

Yesterday I laced up my running shoes for the first time since January 30th.  It felt AMAZING.  All I did was walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, covering 1.75 miles.  But really that little bit of a workout felt so nice.

I was surprised at how good it felt to be doing a brisk walk.  Really it took everything in me not to try and run.  My body felt completely normal (as far as I could tell) other than a slight pain in the back of my right hip.  But I'm thinking that has more to do with carrying an outside baby and awkward sitting positions than it does with having birthed a child.  I'm toying with starting the C25K on Sunday.  The weather could be decent, Chris doesn't have to work (unless I don't know about it, which is entirely possible), and I'm ready to get going.

Also?  As of today I'm going to be better about my food intake.  Well, I'm going to try anyway.  As of Friday at three weeks postpartum there was still no change in my weight (about 5 pounds to go).  Not a huge deal, but I don't want to hold onto those last five pounds if I don't have to.  Plus, WAY too much chocolate is going into my mouth.  I'm tracking calories, but not limiting them.  I just want to be mindful of what I'm eating, and shift the bulk of it from junk to nutritious foods again.  I think I'll benefit from it, and even though the chocolate doesn't seem to affect her, I'm sure Elsie would benefit from me taking in a few more vegetables here and there as well.  Maybe, just maybe, she'll start sleeping a little better without the chocolate.  That is what I'm telling myself so it isn't quite as hard to give up my favorite food vice.

And one more random thing, I was reading Caitlin's blog, Healthy Tipping Point, this weekend and came across a personal challenge she has set up for herself.  She has deemed this month 'Ironman March.'  If you've never heard of an Ironman, it is a triathalon that consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run.  A wee bit daunting?  Absolutely.  But Caitlin is planning to cover the Ironman distance over the course of 31 days.  If I was a little more ready to really workout, and I wasn't too chicken to swim, I would love to take on the challenge myself.  It is already a few days in, but maybe some of you out there want to give it a go.

I love the idea of an ironman over the course of a month! Think I will make that a goal for June when it is warm enough to swim!

I am so excited I will be 6 weeks pp on Thursday and I am so ready to start working out again! My goals are to run 3x a week in the early morning. Which will be hard since the baby still only sleeps 3 hours at a time..... But I will do it! And to take 2-3 fitness classes a week in the evening (spin and body sculpting). I am also tracking calories on my fitness pal. I'm jealous of your 5 pounds.... I still have 20 to lose

I know it felt good to get a good walk in. You won't hang on to those 5lbs for long. Keep up the good work.

I have started a new challenge, but haven't decided yet if I will blog about it. I probably will, but I am going to wait until I am further along.

Finally getting back to working out feels so good! I was the same way when I first started. I wasn't sure if I was sore from giving birth or from sitting around so much more than normal!

I am in the same place as you eating wise. I know I need to be more mindful of what I put in my mouth. I know I need to return to fitness because of how far I've come.

And like you, I have a bit of weight to lose. I also have about five (okay maybe seven-ten) pounds to lose from surviving this last year. I don't really have an excuse because I didn't have a baby but I feel like my Master's Program is a baby in a way, because of the time and stress commitment (at least that's what I keep telling myself).

You inspire me to start small. Keep up the good work!
