proof in the pictures

I decided it was about time I shared my 'before' photo with you.  I didn't actually take a specific before picture, but there is one that I think gives a pretty accurate look.  I almost didn't have the guts to post it even now, but I figured it was only fair to those of you out there who are at this with me.

I had Chris snap that photo back in November, with the intention of linking up over at Harper's Happenings for Steppin' Out Saturday.  But I couldn't stand the sight of it, and was much too embarrassed to post it.  That is the heaviest I have ever looked (and been, other than a couple weeks right before Ryann was born).  I hated myself in that photo.  I couldn't completely hate the photo, look at that cute little baldy girl with no teeth!

It was then that I expressed a need to my family to do something better for myself.  My dad bought me a treadmill.  But I kept making excuses and didn't really do ANYTHING to better myself.  I avoided the camera often, unless I was certain that everything was just right, and I wouldn't look like a cow.

To be honest, I'm not sure what really clicked with me.  Thanks to Chris's schedule I was able to make time to work out.  And I was tired of not having any photos from various events because I didn't want a record of what I looked like.  It hasn't been easy, but I got my butt in gear.  I made Chris take these photos six weeks ago.

Obviously not super easy to compare the two, but I know the girl in those photos is so much happier.  So much healthier!  The following pictures were taken this morning, right before I made my poor father attempt to run around the lake they live on with me.  I know you said you were happy you got out there, but man, sorry Dad.  That run definitely wasn't fun!  We did complete five miles in just under an hour, with some walking, hills and a whole lot of wind thrown in.  Anyway, the pictures...

In the last six weeks I've lost roughly 8.5 pounds (my total lost is 27 pounds).  I say roughly, because yet again, I didn't get a chance to weigh myself on my scale this morning.  According to my mom's scale I gained two pounds since yesterday (ummm, I 100% enjoyed all the delicious food my mom cooked up for father's day.  Lots of salt, lots of bread, lots of tasty goodness!), but I have no idea how that compares to my scale.  I guess I'll find out tomorrow!

I also took my measurements six weeks ago, and as of today I've lost .75 inches off my natural waist, .5 inches from around my belly button, and 1.25 INCHES OFF MY HIPS!  Are the numbers drastic?  Not exactly, but heck yes I am proud of the inches coming off my hips.  I'm sure it breaks Christopher's heart a little bit, but I am thrilled :o).  A little side by side comparison for you...

And now it is time to go balls to the wall.  I have 5-6 pounds left to lose to meet my first big goal, 10-11 to meet my not sure I can get there goal.  Six weeks from now I want to have hit that first goal dang it!  I've allowed myself a little too much chocolate over the last two weeks.  The break I took from running somehow made me lazy with everything else (for the record, I didn't run for four days, my hip still hurt, so I popped some Aleve and said screw it).  Chris starts residency on Friday, and I am in a panic that I won't be able to maintain what I've been doing.

But I've got to kick that all aside.  I CAN DO THIS!

So can you, get out there and move your butt :o).  Check out all of the other McFatty Monday posters at Heir to Blair for some more inspiration.

You look great! Congrats on the weight loss! I am in the middle of trying to lose 30 more pounds from the 10 that I have already lost since having my son. It's so hard! So I feel you. Hope you can make that next goal. Good luck!

I'll echo every one else when I say you look great! But I feel you on the pain (mine is in my ankle, not my hip) and worrying about maintaining what you have been doing. I have a gym here in our apartment complex (we live in Romania) but I am returning to the States (we have a home in Pennslyvania) on Thursday. I will be alone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for TWO months with my two children (5 &4). I am so scared I will not be able to keep up with my daily workouts :( But there is a gym near to my house with a daycare, so I am pledging to stick with it! I'm pulling for you to meet your goals :)

I love it! Seeing a side by side like that is the perfect way to see the progress you have made. Sometimes it doesnt take huge drastic changes--- but friend- look at your waist!!I see the biggest difference there and in your face...
A happy girl is the prettiest girl. Keep it up!

You really, really look great Ashley!

And btw, I think it's okay to not run for four days. 'Cause in life...sometimes that happens. The important thing is to find that balance, and to WANT to get back to doing whatever you're doing when you do take a break, ya know?

You totally rock! I can't believe what amazing progress you've made so quickly. Also, love the outfit in the first photo -- the red shoes and red jacket combo are so cute!

(New-ish follower here ...) Way to go! Truly an inspiration, and you look absolutely amazing - not only with the lost pounds, but you can tell you feel so much better about yourself and are healthier because you're taking care of yourself. I have recently recommitted to losing my last pesky 15 pounds, and posts like this one carry me through when my motivating is lacking. Thanks for sharing!

You look awesome - GREAT job! I didn't think you looked "big" before but as soon as I scrolled to that before pic, I immediately recognized how much you have lost from the other pictures you have posted of yourself recently. You go, girl! I have lost the same as you (and my daughter is actually two weeks younger than Ryann) and I think you may have inspired me to do a similar post over on my blog. Thanks for the inspiration and for putting yourself out there!

You look amazing!!! I am trying to do the same type of thing. I gained 60 lbs after two pregnancies and I have lost all my confidence. I am trying to find that condifence and just recently got back into running. I vow to get all this weight off my body.

You are very inspirational. Thanks for the post I needed it!!!
