a day in the life - heidi

Hope you all are having a good week.  Today you get to meet Heidi.  I hope you enjoy a day in her life!

Hello everyone I'm Heidi and I blog over at Once-In-A-Lifetime. My husband and I have been married for just over 2 years and we a have a 16 month old son named Daxon. My husband works shift work ( one week 7am-3pm, next 3pm-11pm, next 11pm-7am and then gets a week off) so our daily schedule changes weekly. This particular day Derek was working 7am-3pm.

6:00am- I hear Daxon over the monitor waking up, I go and get him and bring him into our bed.

6:10am- The alarm goes off and Derek gets up, Daxon rolls out of bed and follows him to the bathroom. I grad him and take him to his room for a diaper change, then bring him downstairs. He heads straight to the fridge and I give him his sippy cup of milk.

6:30am- After kisses and I Love Yous Derek is out the door to work. Daxon is pretty fussy this morning (we have taken away his pacifier during the day and only give it to him a night, I think this might be the problem), so we sit and read books and do a puzzles.

7:45am- We head upstairs and Daxon gets dressed, I brush his teeth and make the beds. I swap my pj's for some sweats (cute, I know).

8:00am- It's breakfast time, Daxon has oatmeal with apple sauce and 2 cereal bars and I have 2 pieces of toast and jam and a cup of coffee.

8:30am- Daxon is done breakfast and I clean up the kitchen while Daxon runs around. After I'm done I go and play with him and read more books. Daxons new favorite toy is a vtech helicopter that he will pull around the house for hours if you let him. During this time I will sometime go on the computer, depending what Daxon is doing.

10:00am- Nap time, I read Daxon a short story and but him in his crib, he cries for a few minutes and then goes to sleep. We have just started to master the nap time routine, as before it was a struggle to get him to sleep during the day. While Daxon sleeps I get to painting. We are getting ready to sell our house, so this has been the routine for the last few weeks. Today I'm painting doors and trim. I finish and have a soup at hand for lunch.

12:00pm- Daxon is up from his nap (he usually doesn't sleep this long, but today he sleeps for @ hours). I get him up and give him a glass of juice and start making lunch. Today on the menu is scrambled eggs and mixed veggies (I need to do some shopping)

12:15pm- Lunch is ready I give him his lunch (he's just learned how to get eat by himself, which had saved me some time). While he eats I clean the kitchen.

12:30pm- Play time again. My sister just bought Daxon some playdough so we try it out. Daxon does really good and doesn't put any in his mouth.

1:45pm- Remember that I haven't gotten the mail since Friday, today is Wednesday. We go upstairs, I put on a little makeup, while Daxon plays in our room. Just about done and Daxon grabs a glass of water from the dresser and spills it all over himself. So I go and change him. We put our jackets and boots on and out the door we go.

2:15pm- We pull into the driveway, its a very nice day out, so we play in the puddles for a bit.

2:45pm- We come inside and I do some laundry, vacuum and dust, while Daxon plays with the with duster and broom (he loves cleaning equipment)

3:20pm- Daddy gets home and takes over entertaining Daxon, while I finish up cleaning

4:30pm- I start supper, on tonight's menu sweet and sour meatballs, rice and peas!

5:30pm- Supper time

6:00pm- I clean up and make Derek's lunch for tomorrow.

6:30pm 7:00pm- We give Daxon his bath (we give him one every second night usually), get his jammies on and give him a sippy cup of milk. We read him a story and then lay him down and he falls asleep right away.

7:00pm- Daxon is asleep and I put away his toys. Then Derek and I usually watch a movie or TV and I will have a shower or Bubble bath (and maybe a glass of wine!)

10:00pm- Bed time for Mommy and Daddy!

Now for the questions....

1. What is the most surprising thing to you about being a mother?
How naturally it came to me. I had all these thoughts in your head before he was born and then when he arrived I (for the most part) knew exactly what to do.

2. What are some tips you would give to new moms, or soon to be mommas?
Do what you feel is right for you and your baby. People will be giving you a lot of advice and telling you how you should do things, but was right for them is not necessarily right for you. DON'T Google every little thing you notice with your baby, it will only scare you.

3. What are your top three baby products?
Angel Care Baby Monitor- An alarm will sound when it dosimeter detect a heart beat. It saves me going to check on him so often.
Bumbo Chair- I'm not sure what people did before these.
Baby Swing - The first few months Daxon loved his swing and let me get some house work done.

Thanks for sharing your day with us! I liked that you admitted to changing out of PJs and into sweats, because I do that too. I always feel like other SAHMs must look perfect everyday!

Oh and I caught that your son just learned to feed himself. My 13mo old son *just* started trying to feed himself. I can't wait until he's a bit more self-sufficient at meal times!

I always love reading these posts!

Ashley, if you are looking for any bloggers to write a guest "day in the life" post, I would love to write one. I need an excuse to document a day in the life with my 10.5 month old little girl.
