'noooooooooooooooooo!'

I will have a day in the life post sometime soon for you, just haven't received it yet.  I'm sure you'll live :o).  Until then, some Ryann stories...

Yesterday I was on the phone with my mom, and walked to the door to peek outside and see if my car windows were frosted.  Because I hadn't checked the forecast yet, I was a wee bit surprised to see snow on top of my neighbors roof!  It was barely snowing and there was a light dusting on the ground.  Nothing crazy.  Of course just enough to make for some slick intersections, but oh well.

I asked Ryann if she wanted to see something cool outside, and told her that it had snowed.  She came over to the door, and when I opened it her eyes got huge, "Nooooooo!"  Which was really her saying snow, she just left of the S (and I didn't want to type it out like she had screamed now :o).  She immediately was saying "touch it!  touch it!  touch the snow!"  She was so excited.  So before we headed off to the gym I let her play for just a minute (so I could snap a couple pictures of course).

Wow, I did a poor job editing those photos, but I'm too lazy to go back and fix it.  Nonetheless, I think it is safe to say that her reaction to the snow was much more pleasant than last year...

Granted, last year there was a lot more snow and she could barely sit up, let alone move (because of the coat and pants).  I suppose some of that might have had something to do with it.  :o)

A couple more Ryann related tidbits... the other day we were in the car and she was drinking water out of her camelbak.  She started shouting out "C! A! M! E! L! B! A! K! Speeeeeeeellllssss.... WATER!!!"  I about died laughing.  Poor thing, she was so proud of herself and I couldn't compose myself.  She definitely gets an A for effort on that one.  I did inform her that no, it actually spelled camelbak, but that she was really close (which instantly reminded me of the kid at the end of this video).

Lastly, I need your help on this one (if you're on facebook you already know about it!).  Yesterday at nap time Ryann discovered she could reach the light switch from her crib.  It was mildly amusing watching her on the monitor, switching it on and off.  She would flip it a couple times, and then quickly lay down in the corner, like she knew she wasn't supposed to be doing it.  After laying there for a few seconds she would roll over, look up at the switch, and I swear that thing was calling to her.  She would get up and flick the switch a couple more times and then lay down again as fast as she could.

That process continued for a couple minutes, until one time she flipped the switch, looked around, and then tried to climb out of the crib.  She was literally strattling the rail, and the only reason she didn't finish getting out, was because I went running towards the room screaming like a bat out of hell.  I didn't want to know what happened if she hit the hardwood without catching herself.

I no doubt scared the crap out of her, I could see the tears welling up in her eyes.  She quickly laid down, asked me to cover her with the blanket and sing her a song.  I felt terrible for scaring her, but I didn't want her to get hurt!  After I left the room she didn't move an inch.  Since then she hasn't touched the light switch, nor has she tried to climb out.  But I'm still not sure where we go from here.  I honestly have no idea how she would react to being in a toddler or twin bed.  She can't turn the doorknobs yet so she wouldn't be escaping her room 90 bajillion times (yet) and I think if I explained it enough times she would get the concept to stay in bed and go to sleep.  But do we need to do this right now?  Or do I wait a bit and see if she tries it again?

On facebook a crib tent was suggested... has anyone used one?  I'm just looking for all the help I can get.  I know she can pretty much climb out of the pack 'n play so we are going to have to figure out a regular bed solution soon, just really not sure what route to take.  Any suggestions or experiences you can share with me would be great!

My daughter climbed out of her crib at 14 months old... no lie! We switched to the pack and play for a while, but when she started to climb out of that, too (around 18mo) we decided it was time to do a big girl bed. I recommend just going for it - it took her all of 2 days to get used to it and now she sleeps like a pro.
One trick we used was to a) get a toddler bed rail and b)put lots of soft things around her (she has lots of pillow pets so we used those) so it feels snug like her crib did.

I feel you pain on the crib/toddler bed thing. Henry was really close to getting out of his bed so we moved him to a toddler bed. That resulted in him sleeping on the floor behind the door for months. He would not stay in the bed. I knew he was way too young to make the transition, but I really didn't want him falling out of the crib. It got to where he was sleeping on the floor and not staying asleep all night which was horrible, so we put him in the pac-n-play. He started sleeping all night again and he can't get out it. Well, at least so far. Not ideal, but it's working.

I think the photos look great! Adorable :) I can't give you any tips on what to do about the bed since LO is only 8 months, but best of luck. I dread this day :(

Lower your crib to the floor...you can just take the spring thing out, and put the mattress on the floor. It makes changing the sheets a pain in the butt, but it will buy you a couple more months before you need to get her in a toddler bed! A friend of mine did this and it worked like a charm! (you might want to put a small piece of foam down first to keep a little padding between the floor and the mattress. This will keep her mattress from getting too cold too!)

I am very lucky that at 25 months, Ellie is still too chicken to even try to climb out of her crib! I think it's safe to say we will be able to keep her in the crib for as long as we want (thank God!)

That's definitely another "thank god for the video monitor" moment!! Glad you got to her in time. I honestly think Annie wouldn't ever attempt to climb out of her crib. She's so lazy she asks for help to even get on the couch sometimes :) Too bad for her, because she'll need to be in a big girl bed so her baby bro can have the crib - we're planning on just doing it one night - probably after the new year. I don't anticipate any huge issues honestly, but we'll see... Good luck!

Oh, if I were you, I'd probably wait to see if she does it again but maybe put some pillows around her bed just in case...

I know I already posted on FB but I do know a friend who uses the tent and she swears by it. Her son escaped at 18 months and found his way to her room in the middle of the night. Yikes!! They installed the tent the next day and he's been contained ever since. Another girlfriend of mine was the one who suggested putting the mattress on the floor and building the crib back around it. Her son stayed in his crib like that until his third birthday!

We took anything she could climb on out of the crib. Crib bumpers and stuffed animals and put the mattress on the floor. This has worked for about 4 months. she is 25 months now.

Sorry again for my day in the life post, I am such a spaz sometimes!! Plus this week is all sorts of crazeeeee!!

Omg that picture of Ryann in the snow cracks me up! I have almost exactly like that of Harper last year, she was not amused by the snow or the bajillion layers either.

The bed thing........I am in that same predicament, I don't know what to do either!!! We have carpet though so if she gets out I don't think she will get hurt too badly. Now if it was hardwood floors I would be concerned too. Man that's a tough one.

The pics are adorbs, totally jealous you guys got way more snow than us!!

I moved my daughter to a full size bed at 19 months. i thought it would be hard to transition because she has never slept anywhere except her crib. she took to it like a champ though. we started for a couple weeks with just the mattresses and then the bed. we have a rail on the side but she never really gets close because her bed is so big compared to her...

i have experience with crib tents. my kid doesn't use one, but a few years ago i nannied for a little 2 year old boy with autism and he had to have a crib tent so he wouldn't escape. it works perfectly... exactly as advertised. but if you're going to go that route, i would recommend doing it sooner rather than later because if she gets used to climbing out and then finds out you've tented her in, she'd probably be pretty ticked. but if you treat it as an exciting early christmas present it would probably work.

and as for transitioning to a toddler bed. i've got no words of wisdom for you. my little girl is only 17 months so we've got a ways to go. hopefully.

good luck!
